President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

The President has also directed the suspension of the SGF from office pending the outcome of the investigations.

In a related development, the President has ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim.

The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.

SENATE RE-COMMITS NABRO, CURRENCY CONVERSION (FREEZING), TWO OTHERS & PASSES SEVEN BILLS FOR SECOND READING

The Upper Legislative Chamber on Wednesday re-committed four Bills back to the Conference Committee for rejigging. The committal was sequel to observed shortcomings in the legislation passed by the National Assembly. Two of the Bills were recommitted before they were transmitted to the President for assent, while the remaining two were sent back to the Apex Parliament after the President withheld assent as a result of observed shortcomings.

Fortune Magazine has realeaed a list of 34 world leaders who have influenced global health care in a signifiant way and two times Finance minister under Goodluck Jonathan Administration, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was one of the people who made the list. It was learnt that Okonjo and Seth Berkely (GAVI CEO) oversee a public health alliance that has boosted access to vaccines in 73 of the world’s poorest countries, tackling scourges like cholera and cervical cancer.

EFCC says it feels honoured to serve Nigerian people and will do even better than it is currently doing.

SENATE TO HARMONIZE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF 1999 CONSTITUTION, INTERVENES IN SPATE OF KIDNAPPINGS IN LAGOS EAST

 In keeping with one of its cardinal legislative mandates, the Senate on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 set the stage rolling to by resolving to harmonize the different versions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
